Professional Experience

• Worked on various components of the Yahoo! Ad Server, a distributed system that delivers relevant ads for the Yahoo! web services. Participated in design, development, testing and deployment of new features for the Quota Server, a load balancing service that controls a grid of thousands of Ad Server hosts.
• As C++ and STL expert, gave several presentations and tech talks on modern C++ coding techniques; mentored other developers on C++, Boost, and STL; actively participated in code reviews.
• Took part in numerous internal hack events; never missed a single Hack Day, a quarterly 24h hacking marathon at Yahoo!.

• Participated in full life cycle of the Service Director Data Collection system, a near-real time CORBA service written in C++ using STL, pthreads, and XML DOM. Designed and implemented a custom, bytecode-compiled language for loadable metrics' formulas used in network performance monitoring.
• Designed and led the development of Service Director Feeder Framework, a robust C++ framework that provides common functionality for a set of custom data collection plug-in modules. Refactoring legacy C++/CORBA services into a new framework reduced their code by 60 to 75%. Technologies used: C++/STL with CORBA, pthreads, TCP sockets, loadable libraries.
• In a team of three developers, designed and implemented a Service Level Manager Transformation Layer, a flexible framework of adapters to access third party network performance monitoring systems. Written in Java with embedded Python, and using JMS, CORBA, JDBC, XML/XSLT, threads and sockets.
• Developed a set of Python, Perl and Unix shell scripts for performance data collection, data conversion, and unit testing, used in many Service Level Manager's demos and trials.
• Took part in refactoring of C and C++ code for NetPerfMon, another Telcordia network performance monitoring system. This included reverse engineering and rewriting some legacy C and C++ code for Unix and X/Motif, and creation several stored procedures and triggers in the Oracle database. C++/STL, Oracle Pro*C/C++, and Oracle PL/SQL were used in new code.
• As C++ and CORBA expert, was involved in the development, debugging and code inspection of the Element Communicator GUI, a front-end configuration and administration tool for the remote network management software.
• As a Project Leader with a team of 5 developers, worked on porting from C/C++ to Java a legacy code of NMA/EG DataServer, a middleware between a number of network monitoring hosts and GUI clients. This work included reverse engineering of C/C++ Unix code and TCP-based protocols, and full cycle of system design, development and testing, using UML, sockets, Java threads and JDBC.
• For a legacy mainframe system (WFA/C), re-designed a TCP-based protocol into CORBA IDL interface, and developed a C++ prototype CORBA service.

• As a Project Leader with a team of 3 developers, worked on a multi-tier application server for financial transactions. Designed, implemented, tested, and maintained a server-side framework and client library, both developed in C++ using sockets, threads, and dynamic libraries for Unix and Windows. Informix ESQL/C and Oracle Pro*C/C++ were used for database access; client library was also ported to Delphi and Centura Builder.
• Designed and implemented a gateway between SWIFT ST400/ST200 international financial transfer system and BARS banking software. The gateway was a C++ Unix application that used sockets and/or shared files for message transport, and Informix ESQL/C or Oracle Pro*C/C++ to access the BARS system database.
• Took part in the design, development, testing and maintenance of a BARS bank clearing system. Designed and implemented a file processing module, a C++ application that used Informix ESQL/C or Oracle Pro*C/C++, curses, and third-party cryptography library, and worked under Windows and various flavors of Unix.

• Participated in the design and development of a Heat Pipeline Network GIS software. Worked on pipeline map visualization and editing modules, using C++ and Borland ObjectWindows Library (OWL) for MS Windows 3.1
• Designed and implemented a multi-threading library used in medical equipment hardware monitoring applications. It was a C library written in i386 Assembler under MS DOS.
• Designed and developed a font editor for NEC PinWriter P5200 matrix printer and created a set of Cyrillic fonts for this printer.
• Ported a legacy ADABAS software to IBM PC. Implemented an ADABAS API compatible C library to access dBase DBF files under MS DOS.
